In brief: Mexico’s formal sector starting to show signs of recovery

* Mexico’s social security institute (IMSS) has released new figures which show that 65,936 formal jobs were created in June this year, a 0.3% increase on the previous month and a 3.5% increase on the previous year. According to the IMSS figures a total of 401,648 new formal jobs were created in the first six months of 2021. While this is a significant increase, it is not yet enough to compensate for the 647,710 total formal job losses recorded over the course of 2020 as a result of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
