VENEZUELA: Key dissenting voice on Apure conflict arrested

The arrest on 2 July of Javier Tarazona, the director of the Venezuelan human rights NGO Fundaredes, alongside two other Fundaredes employees, threatens to silence a key source of information on the Apure conflict and has caused great consternation in Venezuela and abroad. The serious charges the men face – treason, terrorism, and incitement of hatred – are widely viewed as a warning to Fundaredes that its allegations of military collusion with illegal armed groups will not be tolerated.
