COLOMBIA: JEP announces first batch of ‘false positive’ charges

Colombia’s transitional justice court (JEP) announced on 6 July that 10 soldiers will be charged for their alleged role in 120 extrajudicial executions carried out between January 2007 and August 2008. Prosecutors claim that these were ‘false positives’ – civilians murdered by the security forces and presented as felled enemy combatants to give the impression that the military was winning the war against insurgent guerrillas.
