In brief: Colombia’s exports rise but yet to recover to pre-pandemic levels

*Colombia’s national statistics institute (Dane) has released new figures on exports which show these totaled US$3.097bn in May 2021, up 39.4% on May 2020. According to Dane this increase was driven mainly by a 66.5% increase in fuel exports. According to the report, fuel exports and products from the extractive industries accounted for 51.3% of total exports followed by agriculture, food, and drink (22.2%) and manufacturing (17.2%). However, the May figure is still 17.4% less than the US$3.75bn registered in May 2019, suggesting the sector has yet to return to levels registered prior to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
