* Bolivia’s deputy minister of foreign trade and integration, Benjamín Blanco, has announced that Bolivia registered a trade surplus of US$453m betweeen January and April, which he said represented a recovery from the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Blanco explained that exports in this period totalled US$3.09bn (compared with US$2.31bn in the same period in 2020), and imports totalled US$2.64bn (compared with US$2.28bn). The volume of exports in the first four months of 2021 was 17.2% greater than in the first four months of 2020, whilst the value of these exports was 34.16% higher, he said. Blanco highlighted that the main markets for Bolivian exports were the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) (24%); the Andean Community (15%); India (14%); the European Union (10%); Japan (9%); China (7%); and the US (5%).
