Just as she got within touching distance, Keiko Fujimori seems to have fallen slightly further behind Pedro Castillo, according to the latest electoral surveys ahead of Peru’s presidential run-off on 6 June. But Castillo could yet suffer a late slip in the polls in the wake of one of the worst atrocities by Peru’s Sendero Luminoso (SL) guerrilla group in recent years: 18 people were killed in the Apurímac, Ene, and Mantaro rivers valley (Vraem) on 23 May.
