PERU: Coca production continues to rise

Peru’s national anti-drugs agency (Devida) was recently forced to correct the United Nations International Narcotics Control Board (INCB)’s annual report, published in March, which mistakenly claimed that Peru had not monitored illegal coca cultivation in 2018 and 2019. Devida highlighted figures that show that, whilst Peru is indeed monitoring the coca harvest, it has failed to prevent coca production from rising for the fourth consecutive year – although this growth was significantly less than that recorded for 2017-2018.
