Paraguayan senator Mirta Gusinky resigned on 3 May after it emerged that she was given a coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccine before she was entitled to receive it. This is the most prominent case of queue-jumping by a Paraguayan official, but it is only the tip of the iceberg. The health minister, Julio Borba, announced a probe into the irregular vaccination of some 500 people. The government rushed to send an emergency health bill to congress, including an article establishing severe sanctions for officials abusing their positions to obtain a vaccine.
