BRAZIL: Senate inquiry begins scrutiny of Covid-19 response

Brazil’s federal senate set up a parliamentary inquiry commission (CPI) last week to investigate the response of the government led by President Jair Bolsonaro to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which has been widely condemned as deficient. The first witnesses called to testify this week were the government’s three former health ministers – Luiz Henrique Mandetta, Nelson Teich, and Eduardo Pazuello – as well as the present incumbent, Marcelo Queiroga.
