NICARAGUA: New electoral reform proposal met with rejection

Electoral reform has long been a demand of Nicaragua’s political opposition, and the international community, ahead of the 7 November general elections in which President Daniel Ortega is seeking a further term. The legislative bill recently unveiled by the ruling Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN), however, would seem to have fallen short of satisfying these calls.
