CHILE: Pension dispute intensifies

Pensions are likely to be at the centre of the Chilean political debate for the rest of this year. The constitutional commission of Chile’s chamber of deputies voted on 1 April in favour of allowing a third 10% withdrawal of privatised pension funds; the government opposes the idea and favours instead a wider pension reform. Meanwhile Labour Minister María José Zaldívar, responsible for that reform, has resigned.
