GUATEMALA | Remittance record. Remittances set a new monthly record of US$1.29bn in Guatemala in March, surpassing the previous high of US$1.16bn set in December 2020, the central bank, Banco de Guatemala (Banguat), revealed on 8 April. The March total was up by as much as 72% on the same month in 2020, as the 3m Guatemalan expatriates, predominantly living in the US, increase the amount of money sent back to relatives at home to mitigate the economic impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
