Mexico’s federal electoral tribunal (TEPJF) has issued two rulings backing decisions taken by the national electoral institute (INE) that had been challenged by the ruling left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena). The TEPJF’s actions have eased concerns that it has been co-opted by the government led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador after he criticised the INE decisions and urged it to intervene. López Obrador and Morena are likely to bring further pressure to bear on the electoral authorities, however, as the 6 June midterm federal legislative and state elections approach.
