* Bolivia’s deputy minister for trade and integration, Benjamín Blanco, has announced that Bolivian and Brazilian authorities have agreed to reopen a border transit route via Cobjia, the capital of Bolivia’s Pando department, between 5am and 10pm. This had been closed since 2 April, along with the rest of Bolivia’s border with Brazil to try to contain the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Blanco said the agreement had been reached due to the significant bilateral “economic and trade interaction”, with the closure affecting those who live on one side of the border but who work on the other. However, other border crossings with Brazil remain closed in line with Blanco’s announcement on 9 April that these would remain shut for a further seven days due to the threat of new Covid-19 strains.
