In brief: Colombia highlights efforts to revive orange economy

* Colombia’s culture minister, Felipe Buitrago, has said that between 1 July 2020 and 31 March 2021 “fiscal efforts” to support the reactivation of the so-called 'orange economy' (creative and cultural sectors) amounted to Col$234bn (US$64m). Buitrago's announcement followed the ninth national council on the orange economy which took place yesterday, the fourth since the start of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. The minister also highlighted a Col$6.5trn reactivation plan for the orange economy for this year. This includes a Col$83.2bn national programme providing support for theatres, philharmonic and symphony orchestras and a national stimulus programme which will assign over Col$25bn to artistic and cultural production. He also revealed plans to draw up new legislation to reactivate the arts which would allow for the creation of a national fund to promote patrimony, culture, the arts, and creativity (Foncultura).
