* Peru’s transport & communications (MTC) minister,
Eduardo González, has announced that France has been selected to provide technical advice to Peru for the construction of a new 'central highway' to connect the coast with the centre of the country, as well as a new road connecting Peru’s main international and domestic airport 'Jorge Chávez', with existing road infrastructure. González said that the new 136km 'central highway', which he said would be the “best” in Peru, would comprise four lanes and connect the capital Lima with Junín province, benefitting some 9m people. He said it would require an investment of PEN11.57bn (US$3.1bn) while the other road would require an investment of PEN819.7m. He said that the French government would establish a project management office (PMO) to provide technical consultancy and conduct an international process to select a construction company to carry out the two works.
