* Brazil’s national statistics institute (Ibge) has released the latest results for the services sector, which grew 0.6% month-on-month in January. In year-on-year terms, however, services fell 4.7% compared with January 2020, the 11th consecutive negative year-on-year result. The Ibge has noted that with the January performance, Brazil’s services sector continues to claw back the losses accumulated at the start of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic last year, although the volume of services remains 3% below February 2020 levels. The positive monthly result in January was driven by the performance in transport & related services (which grew 3.1%) and professional & administrative services (3.4%), while services to families, information & communication services, and ‘other’ services recorded a negative performance (-1.5%, -0.7%, and -9.2%, respectively).
