US and Argentina discuss tackling the climate crisis

Argentina: On 1 March John Kerry, US President Joe Biden’s Special Envoy for Climate, tweeted that he had had “a great call last week with Argentina’s President Alberto Fernández about working together to tackle the climate crisis”. According to Kerry’s tweet “Argentina has ambitious plans to capitalise on its vast renewable energy potential – a reminder that our work presents an historic economic opportunity.” The conversation took place on 26 February. On 27 February President Fernández tweeted that he had had a “very good conversation” with Kerry, adding that Kerry had formally invited him to participate in the Leaders’ Climate Summit which is being hosted by the US to bring together leaders of major economies. Hosted by the US, the summit is due to take place on 22 April 2021, which is the fifth anniversary of the signing ceremony of the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.
