In brief: EU launches circular economy collaboration with Mexico

* The European Union (EU) has officially launched its Low Carbon and Circular Economy Business Action (LCBA) in Mexico. The LCBA aims to reinforce collaboration between innovative small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in the EU and Mexican firms, in the circular economy and low-carbon technology sectors. The objective is for European SMEs that have developed innovative solutions in areas such as waste management, renewable energy, green architecture, water treatment and management, and other low-carbon services, to share their expertise with Mexican companies. The trade attaché of the EU delegation in Mexico, Jean-Pierre Bou, stressed the importance of the LCBA to help further economic and environmental cooperation between the EU and Mexico and spoke of it helping to “reach the signing of transatlantic trade commitments that allow us to move forward together towards climate neutrality” .Mexico’s deputy minister for foreign trade, Luz María de la Mora, stressed that “it is fundamental that the [post-coronavirus pandemic] economic reactivation be sustainable” – even though the Mexican government has been moving to cut renewable sources from its energy matrix.
