Dante Mossi, the executive president of the Central American development bank (BCIE), has hailed efforts by the multilateral institution to support Central America in its efforts to recover from the impact of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the damage caused by hurricanes 'Eta' and 'Iota' which made landfall in November 2020. Speaking in a virtual press conference, Mossi said that in 2020 the bank approved US$3.46bn to countries in the region, benefiting more than 38m people directly and indirectly. He said the BCIE approved 26 operations in 2020 of which 12 were programmes and projects for a total of US$1.71bn; nine for financing global credit lines for US$649.2m; and five development policy operations for US$1.1bn.
