HONDURAS: Starting bell rings in long electoral race

The Honduran national electoral council (CNE) and the foreign minister, Lisandro Rosales, made an “urgent appeal” on 29 January to all political parties to “strictly comply” with biosecurity measures. The admonition followed the formal launch of the country’s primary election campaign on 23 January when several events were held in which precandidates and party activists were seen without wearing facemasks. Primary elections are scheduled to take place on 14 March, with presidential and congressional elections not due to be held until 28 November.
