REGION: Looking to source a reliable vaccine

Paraguay and Uruguay have done a better job than their neighbours in containing the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. For months, the two nations have had some of the lowest absolute and relative Covid-19 infection and death rates in the whole of Latin America. The common strategy pursued by the Paraguayan and Uruguayan governments was to implement tough measures to stop the spread of the virus early and try to reduce contagion as much as possible while they waited for vaccines to become available. However, with the virus proving to be harder to supress than anyone expected, and with global vaccine production and distribution suffering delays, the situation in both countries is turning critical. Both governments are now scrambling to try to flatten the infection curve and get hold of vaccines as soon as possible.
