ECUADOR: Electoral confusion continues to build

As the clock ticks down towards Ecuador’s 7 February general election, the confusion that has come to characterise the preparations for this vote has by no means dissipated. Electoral disputes tribunal (TCE) judge Ángel Torres turned the turmoil up a notch on 6 January by dismissing four out of the five members of the country’s electoral council (CNE), after ruling that they had breached electoral law by rejecting the presidential candidacy of Álvaro Noboa, of right-wing party Justicia Social.
