In brief: Brazil’s vehicle sales suffer in 2020

* Brazil’s national federation of automobile dealers (Fenabrave) has released its sales figures for 2020, according to which vehicle sales fell by 21.6% compared with 2019, falling to 2015 levels as the industry was hit by the effects of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Overall, Fenabrave registered the sale of 3.16m new vehicles last year, compared with 4.03m in 2019. Automobile sales were hit even harder, falling by 28.5% to 1.61m units. Fenabrave noted, however, that 2020 sales were not hit as hard as initially expected, with earlier forecasts estimating a 30% drop in sales.
