Problem Number 4: Insufficient economic growth

The underlying rate of economic growth is an important element in the wider equation covering poverty and inequality. In both political and economic terms it is easier to redistribute and help the poor at a time when the general rate of growth is strong. There is often greater social harmony when everyone’s income is on the rise. In this respect, however, there is a paradox in the performance of the Northern Triangle countries over the last four decades.
