In brief: Colombia

Colombia: Colombia’s commerce, industry & tourism ministry (Mincit) has reported that over 4.6m international travellers visited Colombia between January and July this year. This represents a 32.92% increase compared with the same period last year, with a 17.87% year-on-year increase of visitors in July. The number of international cruise passengers in particular increased sharply, from around 3,300 in July 2017 to nearly 6,000 in July this year, which represents a 79.84% increase. Mincit head José Manuel Restrepo said that President Iván Duque’s government “will work on strengthening the travel and tourism industry as a motor of the national economy”, adding that new policies would guarantee higher numbers of visitors and the growth of local tourism.
