Central America: The United Nations (UN) Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean (Eclac) has released its latest economic growth forecasts for 2018 which project that the Dominican Republic (DR) will be Latin America''s fastest growing economy, raising its forecast to 5.4% up from 5.0% in the previous (April 2018) forecast. The DR was the only Central American country for which growth forecasts were raised, however, with the average for the sub-region cut to 3.4%, down from 3.6%. The forecast for El Salvador (2.4%) remained unchanged while Costa Rica’s was cut to 3.3% from 3.4%; Guatemala’s, to 2.9% from 3.3%; Honduras’s to 3.9% from 4.1%; Nicaragua’s to 0.5% from 5.0%; and Panama’s to 5.2% from 5.6%.
