In brief: Argentina

Argentina: An Argentine federal court has upheld a lower court ruling that suspends compensation payments demanded by Odebrecht, the Brazilian engineering firm, from the Argentine government over breach of contract. Odebrecht, which has admitted to paying bribes to Argentine government officials in 2007-2014 in exchange for government contracts, is demanding US$15.14m in compensation for the recent cancellation of a contract to build two natural gas pipes awarded in 2006, which the firm claims was obtained fairly. The contract in question was cancelled after Argentina’s anti-corruption office (OA) said that it had found potential evidence of irregularities it the tender process. The federal court upheld a ruling suspending any compensation payment until the OA completes its investigations.
