LatinNews Regional Monitor: Brazil & Southern Cone - 16 August 2018

In brief: Brazil

* Brazil’s central bank (BCB) has released the latest figures on monthly economic activity (IBC-Br) for June, which show a positive recovery after the index’s record slump in May. The June IBC-Br increased by 3.29% from May, beating expectations of a 3% rise. However, economic activity in the second quarter shrank by 0.99% compared to January-March, reflecting the effects of the lorry drivers’ strike which paralysed the country at the end of May. Data for second quarter GDP will be released by the country’s national statistic institute (IBGE) at the end of August.
