In brief: Argentina

Argentina:  The Argentine confederation of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), Came, has sent a missive to Argentina’s production minister, Dante Sica, outlining various measures which need to be taken in response to the current financial difficulties faced by the sector which groups over 800,000 SMEs. According to a Came press release, rates of loans for SMEs have increased “substantially” in recent months. The press release also complains about the lack of accessible loans available for financing things like capital for labour; the purchase of equipment; and investment to improve companies’ competitivity. Among other things, the proposals put forward include: reducing the rate of subsidised loans for cashing cheques to 21% from 29%; providing soft loans to finance capital for labour, the purchase of equipment; and tripling the funds available through the state-run Banco de Inversión y Comercio Exterior (Bice) bank for SMEs.
