CHILE: Different recipes for a migratory issue

In the last four years Chile has seen the number of immigrants arriving double. After the introduction of a new migration policy last April, the centre-right government led by President Sebastián Piñera faces criticism of discrimination: health certificates are required for Haitian migrants while ‘political visas’ are given in only hours to Venezuelan nationals. And the government has already given all illegal immigrants a deadline: they must sign a state register by mid-July or they will be deported.
