In brief: Venezuela

Venezuela: Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro, who was re-elected on 20 May, has announced a ‘new start’ for his government with a shakeup of his ministerial cabinet. Among the most significant changes was the appointment of Delcy Rodríguez, formally the president of the national constituent assembly, as his new vice president. Rodríguez takes over from Tareck el Aissami, who will assume the newly-created post of minister of national industry & production as well as vice president of the economy. Also in the economic sphere, Yomana Koteich was named as minister for foreign trade & investment and will, according to Maduro, lead the 'Economic Revolution' to “replace a rentier model with a diversified model of exports and encouragement of foreign investment”. Another new position was created, minister for attention to water, which will be assumed by Evelyn Vásquez. Other appointments include: Dante Rivas (fishing & aquiculture), Mayerlin Arias (urban agriculture), Stella Lugo (tourism), Hipólito Abreu (transport), Marleny Contreras (public works), Eduardo Piñate (labour), Carly Bertho (women & gender equality), and Heryck Rangel (eco-socialism).
