In brief: Peru

Peru: Peru's President Martín Vizcarra has sworn-in Carlos Oliva as his new economy & finance minister, replacing David Tuesta, who stepped down earlier this week after just two months in the post amid the growing rejection of the government’s decision to increase the consumption tax (ISC) rate on some products to help shore up the public finances. An economist, Oliva served as deputy finance minister between August 2011 and May 2015 in the Ollanta Humala administration (2011-2016). Oliva has worked at the Inter-American Development Bank (1992-2000) as well as in nearly all Latin American countries as an international consultant (2000-2011).
