In brief: Argentina

Argentina: The federal government has announced that it has received 32 bids for a public-private partnership (PPP) contract to renovate some 3,300km of roads across the country. The interest in the PPP contract, the first offered by the administration led by President Mauricio Macri, was higher than expected. This was celebrated by the Macri government, which also noted that the average projected price of the bids was 33% lower than originally estimated despite the ongoing concerns about the fall in the value of the Argentine peso in the currency markets. According to an official statement 19 Argentine firms and 19 foreign firms have submitted bids for the project expected to involve US$8bn in investments and to create 50,000 jobs.
