Colombia: Colombia’s national statistics department (Dane) has released new figures which show that the country’s GDP grew by 2.2% in the first quarter of the year, a 0.9 percentage point increase compared with the same quarter of 2017, when Colombia’s GDP grew by 1.3%. So far in 2018, nine of the 12 main economic areas experienced growth, with significant increases seen in the financial & securities sector (6.1%); the public administration & defence sector (5.9%); the science & technological sector (5.6%); the art, entertainment & recreational sector (4%); the information & communication sector (3.1%); and the real estate sector (2.9%). However, the construction, mining & quarries, and manufacturing sectors have reported a fall in activity of -8.2%, -3.6%, and -1.2% respectively.
