Panama: AES Panama, a local subsidiary of US energy company AES, has announced that Central America’s first liquified natural gas (LNG) plant will be inaugurated in August in Panama's northern province of Colón. The US$1.15bn project, which is 50% owned by AES and 50% by Panamanian private investment fund Inversiones Bahía, will have an installed capacity of 381MW. AES president Miguel Bolinaga told reporters on 14 May that the construction of the plant is 98% complete.
