In brief: Brazil

*Assuming that Brazil's jailed former president Lula da Silva (2003-2011) cannot run, ultra-right deputy Jair Bolsonaro from the Partido Social Liberal (PSL) is the frontrunner in this year’s general election according to the latest poll by CNT/MDA. Bolsonaro has 18% of voting intentions, ahead of Marina Silva from centre-left Rede Sustentabilidade (Rede) party with 11%. In third place is left-wing candidate Ciro Gomes from the Partido Democrático Trabalhista (PDT) with 9% of voting intentions. However, with less than five months to go until the 7 October election, there is still room for change.
