* Brazil’s securities regulator (CVM) is due to auction off São Paulo-based electricity provider Eletropaulo on 18 May. This sparked a bidding war between Neoenergia, the Brazilian subsidiary of Spain’s Iberdrol, Italy’s Enel, and Brazil’s Energisa. Eletropaulo is one of the country’s largest power distributors so whoever wins could become Brazil’s leading electricity provider, knocking CPFL, controlled by Chinese State Grid, off the top spot.
