In brief: Ecuador

Ecuador: Ecuador’s President Lenín Moreno has announced that the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has offered to increase Ecuador’s credit line by US$100m to help fund social development programmes. Moreno made the announcement after he attended a meeting with IDB representatives in Quito. He said that the IDB had decided to increase Ecuador’s current credit line of US$500m in a bid to promote increased tax revenue in the country by funding economic assistance programmes for minority groups and gender equality. However, Moreno noted that the IDB will allow his government full discretion to use the funds on projects of its choice.
