*Aluminium refinery Alunorte, located in Brazil’s northern state of Pará, has issued a force majeure notice after Brazilian federal and state authorities ordered it to cut production by 50%. The refinery is owned by Norwegian company Norsk Hydro, which is under investigation for the possible contamination of local water sources following a period of heavy rain in the industrial park of Bacarena, Pará, where Alunorte is based. Norsk Hydro is Brazil’s biggest aluminium company after acquiring Brazilian mining company Vale’s aluminium assets in Pará in 2011.
