Colombia: The constitutional court (CC) gave the green light on 1 March to the amnesty law, a key component of the peace accord signed between the Colombian government and the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrillas. The amnesty law was approved by congress in December 2016. The interior minister, Guillermo Rivera, celebrated the CC’s decision to acknowledge its legality. The CC was clear that demobilised Farc guerrillas would only be entitled to an amnesty on the condition that they cooperate with the special peace tribunals of the transitional justice system (JEP), revealing the full extent of their crimes.
