El Salvador: The public opinion institute at El Salvador’s Universidad Centroamericana (IUDOP) has released its latest survey on voting intentions ahead of the 4 March legislative and municipal elections which shows a preference for the right-wing opposition Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (Arena). In the legislative contest, in which, all 84 seats in the unicameral legislature are up for grabs, the IUDOP survey shows Arena on 32.7% of voting intentions followed by 20.5% for the left wing ruling Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN). The same survey showed 7.5% would vote for Gran Alianza por la Unidad Nacional (Gana), 5.1% for the Partido de Conciliación Nacional (PCN), and 2.1% for the Partido Demócrata Cristiano (PDC), while 30% were undecided or wouldn’t say. For the mayoral vote, in which all 262 municipalities are for the taking, Arena obtained 31.7% of voting preferences, followed by FMLN (24.7%), GANA (8.9%), PCN (8.4%), and PDC (2.4%), while 22.6% were unsure/would not say. In the contest for the San Salvador mayoralty – the country’s second-most important post – the IUDOP poll showed that 29.5% would vote for none of the candidates followed by 27.1% who said they would vote for Arena’s Ernesto Muyshondt, while 24% said that they would vote for the FMLN’s Jackeline Rivera.
