* A judge at a federal court in Brasília (TRF-1) has given former president Lula da Silva (2003-2011) his passport back after it was seized by a lower court on 26 January. This means that Lula is free to travel abroad. In a statement to TRF-1, Lula’s defence argued that the removal of his passport violated his rights and that Lula had cooperated fully with judicial investigations, meaning he was not at risk of fleeing the country.
