Ecuador: Ecuador’s foreign trade minister, Pablo Campana, has attended the 48
th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, held in Davos, Switzerland. This is the first time in 14 years that Ecuador has participated in the forum. It follows the assumption of office in May 2017 of President Lenín Moreno, whose predecessor Rafael Correa (2007-2017) had opted to skip the annual meeting. A press release by Ecuador’s foreign trade ministry notes that Campana is tasked with strengthening bilateral trade relations with various countries and bolstering the trust of investors in Ecuador. He has had meetings with representatives from multinational companies such as Glencore International (commodity, trading, and mining); Mercuria Energy (energy & commodities); energy companies Repsol, Anglo American, and Puma Energy; as well as Citigroup (banking); and Abraaj Group (private equity, venture capital, and real estate investment), among others. He is also due to meet his peers from Saudi Arabia and Qatar as part of efforts to attract investment to Ecuador.
