In brief: Mexico

*Mexico’s energy ministry (Sener) has released an updated version of its 2015-2019 hydrocarbon sector development plan. In a statement, the ministry said that the development plan was updated in the wake of the latest round of oil and gas exploration and exploitation concessions awarded last year as part of the 2013-2014 energy sector reform, which opened up the sector to increased private sector participation. Sener explained that the blocs for which concessions were awarded last year have been removed from the plan and that 66 new onshore and offshore concessions that will also be put up to a public tender process have now been included. Sener notes that this represents 39,000km2 of new exploration areas believed to contain some 2m barrels of oil equivalent. According to the Sener statement, the first tender process for these new areas will be opened on 25 July and will include 37 new onshore concessions in the states of Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Tabasco.
