In brief: Colombia

Colombia: Colombia’s finance minister, Mauricio Cárdenas, has been in Paris, France, to promote his country’s bid to join the 35-member Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Colombia is “ready to become number 36 in the organisation” by the end of this year, Cárdenas said. He was speaking at a meeting with delegates and ambassadors from all the OECD’s member states. Colombia first applied to join the OECD in 2013 and has made significant progress on strengthening the country’s institutions and economic management in line with recommendations made by 23 OECD committees. Cárdenas highlighted Colombia’s macroeconomic stability and social policies as evidence that the country has complied with the OECD entry criteria.
