Colombia’s former vice president and current presidential hopeful, Germán Vargas Lleras (2014-May 2017), has publicly voiced his concerns about the transitional justice system (JEP) that is to be applied to the demobilised Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) under the peace accord signed last year with the government led by President Juan Manuel Santos. Vargas Lleras is considered to be one of the contenders to win the May 2018 presidential election and his criticisms of the JEP look like an attempt to mark a clear break with the Santos administration in order to appeal to wider sections of the electorate.
