Correa leads fightback against Moreno plebiscite

In a somewhat bitter irony, days after the first round of Ecuador’s presidential elections in February this year, former president Rafael Correa (2007-2017) said that he would return to defend his government’s legacy if the opposition triumphed. Now he is threatening to do the same just 100 days after Lenín Moreno, who served as Correa’s vice-president for six of the 10 years he was in power, won the second round run-off in April representing the ruling left-wing Alianza País (AP).
