Hoping for the end of the economic slowdown

Colombia’s domestic economy has endured three consecutive years of slowdown, stemming from the fall in international commodity prices registered in 2014. This has had a major impact on the economic policy of the government led by President Juan Manuel Santos, which has been struggling to stimulate economic activity while maintaining fiscal responsibility. The short-term prospects of Colombia’s economic situation radically improving are improbable. Yet President Santos insists there is room for optimism – that economic circumstances will soon improve and a significant economic rebound will take place in the second half of the year. Bringing about this rebound is now a key economic priority for Santos.
