Peru hosts first bilateral cabinet meeting with Chile

Earlier this month Peru’s President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and his Chilean counterpart Michelle Bachelet held the first ‘Binational Cabinet’ meeting at the governmental palace in Peru’s capital, Lima. Historically, bilateral relations have been tense following protracted maritime disputes, which culminated in Peru filing a lawsuit in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in 2008 on which the ICJ ruled in 2014 [RA-14-01]. However, the recent meeting, which took place on 6 July, shows Chile and Peru are seeking to overcome past differences and to work together to form closer bilateral ties.
